In 1850 the first oak of the Poggio was a small tree.
This is a place of serenity and peace. Please visit with respect.

In 1852 the creation of the Poggio was realised by the doctor Francesco Zunini in memory of the five Italian catholic writers involved in the Italian "Risorgimento": Silvio Pellico, Niccolò Tommaseo, Alessandro Manzoni, Massimo d'Azeglio, Cesare Balbo. This place has always been open to the residents of Sanda.

A descendent of the Zunini Family wished to restore this place of peace so it could remain enjoyable for local residents, while remembering the six protagonists involved in the rebuilding of Italy after WWII. These six were custodians of the Second Vatican Council and the Italian Costitution as well as two exemplary Presidents of the Republic: Alcide de Gasperi, Giorgio La Pira, Giuseppe Lazzati, Giuseppe Dossetti, Vittorio Bachelet, Tina Anselmi, Luigi Einaudi, Sandro Pertini.

To help you better understand the message of 'Il Poggio', the names of international peace leaders Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were added in 2024.
This addition, done at the request of previous holidaymakers, aims to capture the global spirit of 'Il Poggio'.

"Il Poggio" of Human Fraternity is located in Celle Ligure (SV) - Fraction Sanda 10 minutes' walk from the church square
